Used Forklift Parts

By Ernest Jarquio

Should You Choose Rebuilt Or Remanufactured Parts?

After some time parts on your
forklift will wear out and will need to be replaced. When replacing these worn out parts you have the option of going with new parts, which can get costly, or you can get used parts to save on money. When dealing with previously used parts your best option is to acquire used forklift parts that have been remanufactured. This will ensure that you are getting parts that will indeed work well for a long time.

Rebuilding Versus Remanufacturing

Remanufacturing of broken, worn out parts is a most cost effective method in the long run, better than simply
rebuilding a broken worn out part. In the process of rebuilding a worn out part only the components that are worn out or broken are replaced. This means that other wearable parts may or may not go out shortly after purchase.

Remanufactured parts give the best guarantee in used parts since the part is taken apart and cleaned then all wearable components are replaced. The wearable components are replaced regardless of wear or age. This ensures that any component within the part is new thus offering a longer life to the used part. The cleaning process will vary depending on the used forklift parts that are in question, as will the entire process of remanufacturing.

Replacing And Testing Parts

The engines are oven cleaned after complete disassembly. The engine can be
remanufactured with several parts being replaced, which include the pistons, rings, bearer, spark plugs, lifters and valves along with the valve springs. After reassembly, the engines are hot tested to ensure that there are no leaks, problems with oil pressure, noises or any vacuum.
Transmissions are also oven cleaned after being disassembled, and then they are pressure washed. A thorough inspection is done to ensure there are no cracks in the cases. Bearings, bushings and seals are replaced. Replacement parts meet O.E.M specifications are used on component in the transmission.

Wearable Parts

The alternator, starter, water pump, torque converters and steer axles can also all be remanufactured with all wearable parts replaced giving them longer serviceability. The control card is the electronic control in an electric forklift; this can also be remanufactured by replacing all worn and aged components. Unlike all other parts, the control card should only have worn and aged components replaced.

OEM Specs

Upon reassembly, the
remanufactured parts will be thoroughly inspected to ensure that they are of top quality before being sold. Make sure that when you look to obtain remanufactured parts that they have undergone thorough inspection and testing. OEM specification replacement parts should be used on transmissions, steer axles and engines.Check with the dealer to ensure that the used forklift parts that they have remanufactured meet these specifications, as this will ensure that you are getting parts that meet industry standards. As you can see, there are a lot of details that go into remanufacturing used parts. In the long run though it is this detail that will give you more serviceability out of these parts than those parts that were simply rebuilt.
